Chad Winterfeldt

Director of Music, Chad Winterfeldt, has served First Lutheran since August 2004.  Nurturing his love of organ music, he graduated in 2004 with a doctorate in organ performance from the University of Nebraska, where he studied with George Ritchie and Quentin Faulkner.  He earned his bachelor’s degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and his master’s degree at Yale University.  He has served churches in New Haven, Houston, and Lincoln, Nebraska. He has taught at Concordia University--Nebraska in Seward, as adjunct professor of Organ and Music History. Career highlights include performing La Nativite du Seigneur (The Birth of Our Lord), a set of nine meditations on the birth of Christ by Olivier Massiaen in February 2009, and the solo performance in August 2002 on the newly restored "Bach organ" at Wenzelskirche in Naumburg, Germany. In addition to working at First, he is also Associate Organist at Christ Chapel of Gustavus Adolphus College, assisting with daily worship twice per week. He also directs two handbell choirs at Gustavus and has taught courses in the music department. Chad lives in Saint Peter with his wife Beth and children Quentin, Eleanor and Cecily.
