What is a confirmation mentor?
In general, a confirmation mentor is someone willing to befriend and guide a confirmation student in matters related to faith and life. Ideally, a mentor is an adult, non-family member, who is actively involved in worship and congregational life at First Lutheran Church. He or she has a sense that mentoring is one way in which people fulfill their vows to nurture the baptized and help them mature in healthy ways. A mentor is not a parent, a peer, a bank, God or perfect. But a mentor IS:
At First Lutheran Church, confirmation mentors will be asked to do the following things:

He or she has a sense that mentoring is one way in which people fulfill their vows to nurture the baptized and help them mature in healthy ways. A mentor is not a parent, a peer, a bank, God or perfect. But a mentor IS:
- Someone to talk to.
- Someone to say, “You matter to me.”
- Someone who takes students seriously.
- Someone who doesn’t judge.
- Someone who is understanding.
- Someone who loves to laugh.
- Someone who can be serious.
- Someone who cares.
At First Lutheran Church, confirmation mentors will be asked to do the following things:
- Pray daily for their mentorling
- Engage in regular ‘conversation’ (weekly is ideal)
- Complete one service project together each year
- Have at least one fun/fellowship time together
- Attend Wednesday night Lenten worship services and engage in conversation with mentorling following service
- Discuss matters of faith honestly, helpfully and candidly
- Stand with their mentorling on Confirmation Day as they affirm their Baptism
- Take interest in their mentorling’s life & activities
- Be a friend who cares
