STAFF AT FIRST LUTHERAN

Chris Culuris
Lead Pastor

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and how I came to be here in St. Peter, Minnesota. Due to my father's work first for the Department of Energy and then the Department of Defense, I have lived in many places both in the United States as well as overseas. I graduated from the University of Colorado- Boulder with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. Then I felt a call to ministry. I first studied to be a priest for the Archdiocese of Denver, Colorado for three years. I finished my Master's of Divinity degree and became a Lutheran while studying at St. John's School of Theology and Seminary in Collegeville, Minnesota. After I completed my M.Div degree, I studied at Luther Seminary in St. Paul and completed a "Lutheran Year." Then I interned with eight congregations in the area surrounding Kenyon, Minnesota. In the past 19 years, I have served two-point parishes in Central Pennsylvania, Northeastern and Southeastern Minnesota. I am married with two children. In my spare time I like to go hiking, camping, help with Scouting, travel and watch movies.

Brenda Handel-Johnson
Deacon

My name is Brenda Handel-Johnson and I serve as a Minister of Word and Service. I grew up in southeastern South Dakota and graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. I was a music teacher, church musician, singer and a choral conductor for many years but returning home from teaching in Tokyo in 2019 I answered that pesky Holy Spirit’s call and entered Luther Seminary where I graduated with a degree in Christian Ministry. I love the church and the community that it is and serves and find joy in hearing people of all ages sing, make music and discover their own call as a beloved child of God.

I am married and we have one grown daughter. I love spending time with my family, volunteering as an online ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher, being outside with our dog, on my cross country skis or on a bicycle.

My name is Ryan Hahn.  I grew up north of Cleveland and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran in town.  I graduated from Gustavus with a degree in Education and pursued a career in teaching for 20 years. After teaching, I went into insurance which brought me to Arizona where I lived for 5 years.  When the pandemic was over and after an unfortunate car accident, I decided to move back home.  I'm very blessed and excited to have the opportunity to work with the FLC congregation and looking forward to meeting all of you.

My name is Sarah Chambers. Originally from Oklahoma, I grew up loving music, church, and children. After graduating from Oklahoma State, I have taught music for many years - first as a band director, and now as an elementary general music teacher. A current graduate student at the University of St. Thomas, I am always eager to continue learning new things! I am grateful to have the honor of directing choirs and ensembles at FLC. There is a place for EVERYONE in the music ministry at FLC. It is an honor to share this language of worship together!
